    Default Another 2CV problem

Helping a mate to fit new rings . When trying to remove the head we found it would only come off with the cylinder, not a problem. However once removed I noticed that the head was attached to the cylinder with a couple of Tin plates. These don't get a mention in the literature (Haines and Lindsay Porter) and furthermore I am at a loss to see what function they
serve. It would be nice to just discard them. Advice please.

Very strange. The head is a chamfer fit requiring NO HEAD GASKET of any description. The head bolts are tensioned initially to 7Ft Lbs with final tightening to 18 ft lbs. That is basically hand tight.

Remember some back yard mechanics have no idea what they are doing and usually have got someone smarter to build them a backyard in the first place.

    Woody,
if you've been unfortunate enough to ignore pinking and end up with leaky barrel to cylinder head joints, those little sheet metal cowls direct the carbon monoxide laden gases downwards, out of the flow of air through the main cowlings.
Only ever found on German market cars, in my experience...

Here's what happens without them fitted.
