    Default Xantia V6 Auto Box

    Quick question to The Knowledgable:
Does the 98 Xantia V6 use a ZF box or the "Troublesome" boxes used on the C5?
    Thanks in advance.

ZF 4HP20, same as in late XM and 406. Also used in the C5 V6 01-05 and C5 2.2 HDi single turbo 05-06. It's not the AL4, but can be a little lumpy in old age, esp. into 2nd. Most problems begin with pump starvation when the pickup becomes partly blocked. You can't get at the pickup filter, so changing the fluid periodically is a good idea. One helpful thing is that the pre-C5 incarnations have a dipstick.

I know for a fact that a Xantia ZF 4HP20 will fit into a C5 but it will not operate properly, no matter how you try it. You'd have to pull it back out and put in one from a C5. I know because we tried it.

I imagine "tried it" is quite an understatement!

    Thanks for the replies folks.
Was thinking about the hail-damaged Xantia V6 that was up for auction recently, but was worried about the auto box.
I'll keep an eye out for another.
Did anybody on here buy it?
    Cheers. :-)
