Default no Temp Gauge in 2007 C3

It's occurred to me that since our 2007 C3 doesn't have an engine temp gauge - it could probably do with one. Currently it only has the one red idiot light for after it's over heated.

The gauges are a very simple display similar to the one below :

Will a dash unit from another model fit ? Would this be practical ?

Aftermarket temp gauge ? Maybe just a simple led display ?

Where to get the signal from ?

    Thanks for any pointers.

    Hi Justin
I am not an expert on this but will attempt to answer a couple of questions.
All the information from all the sensors is available 'on the bus' which is the communication system between all the computers and the real world on the car. So generally a gauge(or actuator) is either driven by a computer which reads the sensors off the 'bus' eg the speedo or tacho, or the gauge or actuator reads the 'bus' directly for its reading.
What dmccurtayne is saying with "You could use one of those eobd app things like an elm", is you can buy a gauge unit or multi reader, which plugs into the EOBD/OBD11 port and it will read the sensors off the 'bus' itself and display them for you. Actually you can display all sorts of interesting things that you might like, and even get it to slowly scroll through several items as you drive along.

On 4WDs they often look at the boost pressure and the engine temperature and the transmission temperature and the fuel consumption and the temperature of the passenger( just kidding !) as they go along with these sort of devices. They are also available as a smart phone app too if that takes your fancy. Look on Ebay
    good luck searching, Jaahn
