They certainly need charging from time to time. The 2.0 HDIs are normally fitted with an EFB type - these are cheaper usually than an AGM. There are plenty of C5s about with standard batteries as after-market fitments.

(The DW10C engine is coded RHH)

as far as charging goes maybe the known worn belt - no lack of use. it would also help if i hadn't left ignition on for an hour or so a few weeks ago, though.
RACQ guy was very relieved this time/yesterday, when I said I’d deal with the problem rather than his replacing it beside the road but it has expired at home today; deadest of the three incidents now.
It's daunting to get physically at anything beyond the one terminal, the computer aspect is off putting and mode d'emploi notably unhelpful on subject,.
(fwiw, mine and at least one other 2012-13 are definitely coded RHB )

I have had 4 (very) different cars with original Varta and in every case they lasted 7 whole years.

For my C5 X7 RHH I went out of my way to get another Varta. It is the E44 577 400 DIN66 780CCA. It was 340$ fitted by Battery World.

They are available for under 300 online, but it would take a certain time for delivery, and you cannot guarantee the condition, so I opted to pay the extra and see it fitted before my very own eyes.

There was no special procedure, other than the external power source to keep it charged during changeover. Did not have to muck around with radios or windows.

Your specificity is much appreciated Dijon.
    Service Box for my VIN cites '16 372 013 80' as a 'L3D 720/70A' - all of which is a
    start.
I'm inclined to see if local dealership will fit a supplied battery & replenish supplied Eolys
    - absent anyone else who's done either before - there is one technician there that knows what he's doing, so I'ld have him check transmission too: it had a little panic-attack the other night ...
