Thanks everyone. We may skip Paris and spend some time in Kent before catching the boat back to the land of Oz.

    Allan.
I'm just on the train out of Paris to Cannes after 4 days. Sadly CitroŽn, Peugeot, Toyota and Mercedes Benz have all left Des Champs Elysees. Only Renault is left but still worth a visit.

Definitely do the Eiffel Tower, but pre-book. The lines are very long if you don't. Go to their own page, I booked my July tickets as soon as they became available, on about 30 May or so. I suffer from really bad vertigo, but after about 5 minutes and 2 petit glasses of champagne it wasn't a worry.

Sadly there were no car museums in Paris that I could find. There is a Renault museum but it's an old house with lots of displays including a full scale model of the Billancourt factory (I presume it's still there, I visited in 2014). The old Billancourt factory is now a huge urban regeneration sore which as a Town Planner, I loved.

I'm off to Cannes now to pick up a hire car tomorrow and head to Castellane in the French Alps for 3 nights then drive through the Alps to Grenoble, before heading to Mulhouse to visit the Peugeot factory and museum in Socheax, and possibly the Schlumpf collection.

I found Paris a dirty city, and very over - rated (I found the same with New York, I much prefer smaller cities, like Mulhouse). Pickpockets are common, and I always carry a second wallet with more cash and my cars in it hidden in an inside pocket in my shorts. I've been leaving my license in my hotel room safe as I have to have that to pick up the hire car. I figure the chance of being pickpocketed are very slim, but the consequences for a holiday could be significant.
