Default Car history / VIN checker

Trying to look up some history of a car out of the 1980ís.
And using vindecoderz.com I get a confirmation of the base model. However the year comes up as 2003 Ė I take it that this is the last year that any data was plugged back into Citroen. Additionally they provide a mileage which is I guess the last know reading at that time (ie year).

    Is that right?
Are there any other potential sources of info?
The particular car hasnít been registered for a number of years Ė so Im guessing that VicRoads will not retain data of old regos.

Can those of you experienced in the art of acquiring shed any further light here?

    Cheers

What is it? A BX? If you quote the VIN there are several AF contributors who can tell you quite a bit about it as it left the factory, from their membership of servicie.citroen.

    Hello seasink,

Yes. A BX. VIN vf7xbxb0030xb5593 (this number is different to the current crop which has a trailing 7 digit number at the end)

I take it that its a "paid" membership of service.citroen .... as I've already tried there and got "invalide". I presumed that service.cit only goes back so far... or am I wrong here?

Also looking to get feedback on my questions re vindecoderz.com .... and how they get that data or is this an early version of "fake news"!

    cheers

    Hi Balouk,

I get an unknown vehicle using that VIN on PSA service box - so is the VIN correct.

I plugged in the VIN for my old BX TZI wreck and it came up with this info - there is not much there compared with what you get on later cars like XAntias.

    Hello Ken,

Yes. That number is correct. Unless the French can't distinguish between a B and an 8! Here's the photo.....
Perhaps A-frogas who have BXs series 1 ... can shed some light on the format of the number????
    Please????

Or service.citroen does not go back that far? Yours is a 1990 and the one Im querying is 1986....
Are there alternate sources of data?

    G'day,
you could also write/email Citroen, they should be able to tell you the history of any car. I once enquired from VW about my Golf. One week later, with an apology for taking so long, they supplied information from the date of manufacture to the date it was shipped to England.
    regards,
    Les W.
