Default Citroën in Sydney’s La Bohème?!

Went to the big outdoor opera in Sydney the other night (La Bohème , was a brilliant night out, so good) and I was pleased to see that for the setting of 1968 Paris, they had three French cars:

Musetta arrives in a blue Citroën “police” H-van (this must belong to someone local surely?)

And at the beginning of Act 3, depicting the aftermath of the student riots of ‘68, there is the burning shell of a DS; and a smouldering Renault of some sort. Someone must’ve found these at a wreckers! They were flown in on cranes (at another point in the evening, a child singer is flown off the stage clinging to balloons on the crane!!)

Slightly distressing to see a burning DS - it’s just a prop, it’s just a prop!

Despite all the fun, I noticed the evening was sponsored by Mazda! Oh, and there was snow being pumped out - presumably the last time my wife and I see snow on Sydney Harbour!

Anyway, thought the denizens of AussieFrogs would find this interesting!

Complaints about the abuse of the R4 and Citroen to: Set & Costume Designer Dan Potra

I suspect a burnt car would be a WHS hazard to actors, so there may be theatrical goop and tricks being applied here. The flames would be strictly controlled for sure.
