    Default CX 2400 Clutch Change

    Hi

Can anyone tell me what work is involved with changing the clutch on a CX2400 5 spd manaul?

Does the engine have to come out?

How expensive is the clutch kit?

    Regards

    Alan

Have a look on Ebay uk and see what sort of price the clutch kits are at the moment. also budget for a camshaft seal and check the camshaft carrier bearing, the driveshaft inner bearing and spigot while you are there.

Its a reasonable sized job, driveshafts out, engine & gearbox out through the top and split on the floor outside of the car.

    Default Big Job

    Shane

So it can't be done with the engine in the car?

So if it goes to a mechanic it will cost thousands?

    Regards

No it can't be done in the car because the camshaft pokes through the bell housing on the gearbox by a long way and there is not enough room in the engine bay to get the gearbox off enough to clear the camshaft.

    Cheers, Ken

Its not a difficult job ... I"d suggest DIY if its a hobby car. If its your daily driver. Yes I imagine it will be expensive as there is quite a bit of time involved in extracting the motor and putting it back!

The cost however probably will not be the issue .... it'll be finding a mechanics willing to take it on!

Any way of telling how good the clutch in a car is?

How many kiolmetres will a car general run on one clutch?

Unless its a petrol turbo, CX's are not hard on clutches. If it works ok, doesn't slip or shudder etc... It would be one of the last things I'd be concerned about

I had DS motors do the clutch on my Cx2200 before they closed, very Lucky. I ordered the clutch from CXBasis, delivered within a fortnight. All up it was no dearer than any other car I've had done. Did the main seals on the engine, engine mounts plus anything else the John suggested and here by the brains trust😉 It still looks like a bomb yet it drives so well! I've since found my local servo mechanics workshop here in North Brisbane is owned by a South African & said he worked on so many over the years back there. Phew, as I don't have a hoist or engine crane, I now have some where to go I can walk home from if a big problem arises.
