    Default DS in Australia

Does anyone know what is happening with DS sales in Australia?
They have no mention on the new Citroen Australia website.

    Hi Guys,

The new importer (Inchcape) have announced that they will not be importing the DS cars. They said they have left it open to to re-evaluate their re introduction at some time in the future.

    Best regards,

    Greg

    Thanks Greg and Gary.
Seems I'm good at buying the orphan amongst orphans.
I always wondered why Citroen Australia thought they would have any success with the DS in this market when they launched with the DS3 and put it on sales lots alongside C3's at a grossly inflated price, and particularly when a cheaper top spec C3 looked almost identical from the driver's seat and offered things like folding mirrors which the dearer DS3 DStyle didn't. The big DS3 sales feature in Europe - individualisation - also wasn't as available here through dealers, who promoted/ offered little in the way of accessories and a more limited range of engines / transmissions and colour combinations.
I also wonder if by offering the DS3 here they didn't help kill off sales of the C3 locally - buyers who wanted a "quirky" small car at a slightly higher than standard price shopped for a deal on a DS3 or went to another marque, not wanting to buy the C3 when it wasn't being marketed as the premium product.

    Hi Bruce,

Ultimately, I don't think that DS brand will work? While I love the DS3 (worts & all), it really is a C3 coupe, and missing lots of goodies?

The used of the name DS is really just a con job, as the only thing really premium about the cars is the prices? Trying to make DS a stand alone company, and seperate the name DS from that of Citroen, would seem to me to be an exercise is futility.

There is nothing groundbreaking is any of the new "DS's" designs, in fact the suspension used is very basic, with just McPherson struts at the front.

It seems strange to me that PSA has the money to buy Opel & Vauxhall, yet no money for a C5 replacement, the C5 SUV doesn't start production for another 12 months in Europe.

You have to question PSA's ability as managers, given that the C5 X7 was released in 2008, and didn't really receive any facelift for it entire production run, apart from the change to LED running light, the new Chevron bars at the front, and the colour of the clear plastic in the tail lamps from a pink to grey.

I think thats pretty much death by neglect?

DS's range of cars is just as poor in Europe, basically 3 model, and all of them now aging.

If you look at the Peugeot line up, its not hard to see that Citroen is the poor relation?

The next few rears will be interesting, but the management skills so often bandied about when Peugeot first took over Citroen seem to be a little difficult find right now, and if you want further proof, look at the Citroen UK website, and see the new car lineup, it's a bit pathetic.

    Best regards,

    Greg
