Default DS19 1st dash assembly question

I should have taken more pictures when I disassembled the dash on my '61. (LHD)

There are two angle brackets for holding the lower edge of the plastic ventilator grilles on the sides of the dash. One has captive nuts with cages all on the inside of the angle. One has captive nuts two on the inside of the angle and one on the outside. Which angle bracket goes on the drivers side and which goes on the passenger side?

    Thanks.

Sorry John, I can't answer that. There is a pretty limited market for answers to questions like that, I'm afraid! And the few of us here with a 1st dash DS19 have right hand drives. You might have to do a couple of trial fits. Do you have an early parts book, one with pictures of that dash? That might help. Though I have pulled out mine and cannot see the brackets you mention. I have looked at the body units (front), demisting - ventilation, and instrument panel pages.

I'm interested in your comment that the ventilator grilles are plastic. Mine are metal.

    Hi Roger,

Yes the parts book shows both the grille (D 463-02a/03a) and the bracket (D 463-66/67) but as is so often the case, only one side is illustrated and, in this case, not with sufficient detail. I did trial fit, but nothing seemed to work quite right, so I thought I would see if anyone knew for sure....

    Hello John,

I have looked at all 5 editions of the DS19 parts book and see no D 463 parts in the indexes. Which page of which edition shows those parts?

    Hi Roger,

Sorry for my dislexia. I meant D643 (Manual 466, page 218, upper right corner)
    Cheers,

I see them now but I cannot help you. Sorry.

Quoting the page number does not help because there were 5 editions of 466: in 1956, 1958, 1960, 1962 and 1964. Some tragics (not naming names here lest I incriminate myself) have all 5, in both English and french versions.

Good to know. I will henceforth say Manual 466, 1962 edition. :-)

All I can suggest is that you keep trying different arrangements of trial fit until it does fit.

I have noticed that few people care about the differences between different editions of D series manuals, and I have had some manual sellers lose patience with me when I have asked them questions of detail.
