    Default '03 C5 Diesel - Not starting

    Howdy.
Very general diagnosis I know - my car won't start.

It happened once a few weeks ago - would not start, then came right after a time. In that instance it seemed to start slowly as if it needed juice.

This time the rest hasn't helped. It turns over but does not fire. I've tried lock/unlock in case of immobiliser, and shifting the stick so it knows its in Park.

In an old car I might have chucked some petrol in the carby and checked for spark.
Is there anything I can try with an injected Diesel?

The fuel itself was put in a few days ago, should be OK

    Thanks for your ideas...

Toby check the battery voltage as these C5's seem to need a stable voltage to the BSI so all the electronics start up. Also check you're getting diesel to the fuel pump in the engine bay -listen out for the the in-tank fuel pump under passenger seat, if no pump noise during ignition on Accessory then the power from the engine bay fuse box is at fault (known issue Ken has done a write up on Aussiefrogs)

    Wait...
a few hours on and after a couple of attempts - She's Away!

Maybe I should look at a fuel filter first?

probably the in-tank pump not starting common issue, mine did the same before I was told about pin and Molex connecter with the fuse box, Pink wire on the RED Molex connector, put your multi meter in from the top to measure the actual voltage to the wire, or measure at the pump end... should be an easy fix

Oh OK. Is that the fuse box in the glove box, or the one near the battery?

Just for fun.... try giving it a squirt of "Start Ya Bastard" down the throat... Open the plastic coupling from the air filter, and give a 3 second squirt, close it up quickly and try to start it. If it does, then you need to be looking at the go-plugs or their transformer.

I was just thinking about the glow plugs too - not that we really need them during summer in Oz. A Diagbox check will give you a go/nogo on glow plugs. I think my car is down one glowplug already.

Glow plugs shouldn't be an issue in summer - actually in the Byron Shire they should almost never be an issue!!. More likely it would fire (very roughly) with a lungfull of SYB, but would not run for long. This would indicate fuel starvation...

Thought we covered the glow plug issue a while ago but here is again.
Pre-start glow plug circuitry is not activated unless the ambient temperature is below 3deg.
However under anytime normal conditions, once the engine has started from cold the after-start glow plug circuitry is activated for around 60 sec to help smooth out the idle. [burning off the access fuel supplied at startup].
A dud glow plug will not stop the others from working.

On the starting problem, can u hear a faint clicking as the key fob is waved across the ign switch? If not, the engine isolaror sensor or the comm 2000 is probably faulty. If either of those are faulty the engine will turn over but wont fire. Worth a check at any rate.

Starts but won't rev may be because the HP pump third piston hasn't been activated and that's drama finding the cause.
    Cheers
