    Default C5 Speedo error

2006 C5 petrol V6 has a speedo problem, the car is going much faster than the speedo reading indicates by around 25%. Interestingly the cruise control number on the instrument panel is also quite different to that shown on the speedo as well. According to Haynes the speedo gets its information from the wheel sensors that drive the abs braking. Anyone got any ideas as to what would cause a huge error in the speedo reading & where to start looking? Dreaded ECU problem or a problem within the speedo unit itself come to mind.

    Regards

Is the cruise control speed correct as per a GPS? If so then you have a problem with the speedo needle motor.

    Is this a phase 1 or Phase 2 C5?

Here is a youtube video on replacing the speedo needle motor in a Phase 1 - looks like fun.

Thanks to both the above members for their comments, in particular the youtube video proved invaluable in removing the instrument panel, I doubt that I would have succeeded without that info, the manual was useless.

The needle being plastic, is prone to cracking and it slips on the spindle. A drop of super glue will fix it. Make sure you zero it properly before it sets!
