    Icon5 Ds21 front speaker

My original speaker is showing some damage and the sound is really Low-Fi. I would like to change it, while retaining the original old push-button radio. I don't expect much difference in sound quality but it should be an easy swap?
My questions are - How do I remove the plastic cover and what is the maximum size speaker which will fit?

    Hi Don
The plastic cover just needs a bit of gentle leverage with a screwdriver unless someone has used some adhesive,I usually have trouble keeping them on!

I managed to get 2 of those smaller speakers into the space. Got them at jb. Can't recall size but if you ask for a look at their range under the standard size they will show you. It is tight but it works.

Quick update - I found that the grille came off easily and that the speaker cone was totally detached from the edges. I also found that there was no way I could fit my new 6 inch x4 inch speaker in, due to the large diameter magnet and the vicinity of the mirror and bracket. I'm not ready to take the dashboard off yet, but when I do I may be able to get some power to the interior lights also. Thanks for the responses - I will check out the JB hi -fi speakers which I expect will be 4 inch diameter.

    Hello, how about

    DAI CHI DC46 30 6" X 4" Inch 30 Watts 4 OHM Dual Cone Replacement Speaker | eBay

I'm hoping to squeeze a Retrosound 7x5 dual voice coil into my dash. Their speakers are quite shallow.

It looks identical to my brand 'X' 6x4, which I could not easily fit into space.

DS front speaker is oval 3 x 7 inch the mounting holes are on a rectangular pattern about 2-1/4 x 6, which is an oddball size. I ended up making a backer out of a piece of hardboard (masoninte) the size of the old speaker painted black. I then cut a circular hole in the backer and installed a round high efficiency (I think it was 1.5 inch) micro tweeter in the space. Hardly noticeable and the woofer on the back shelf works pretty well with the tweeter under the mirror.....
    Cheers,
