Here is my new 1969 DS21 BVH Pallas...Palladium grey with tan leather interior
last registered Jan 1977 and stored in a shed until now....only 8 years use on the road
original books and sales brochure....here are some photos as she arrived...still covered in yrs of dirt
some surface rust and some other minor rust, some chrome hasn't fared well..ie interior handles
Leather and interior in general has wonderful patina and incredibly original....
will post more photo's after I have given her a clean....

Who were your transport guys ? Nice job there, removed the rear gaurds to strap the wheels down and tied the bonnet shut with a ratchet strap. Nice work!

That car looks extremely good. Look how straight the door trims are for example.

took me all day to find them..they got a firm called coastwide to pick up and take to their depot..
they strapped front wheels as well...thought there would be some damage as a lot of these companys leave a bit to be desired but they were good...a non runner from near Newcastle to Main Ridge...door to door for $1200 cash..very reasonable
They will move a runner to Melb for $550..cash
    also do the Brisbane run...ph 02 43257610 or mobile 0415 433 371
email [email protected] www.drmlogistics.com.au Tell em Andy Murray sent you
I have now cleaned the inside and it's come up a treat...would you believe the leather is still soft!!!!
I'd like to put some hide food into it though...any recommendations? something without additives to destroy the stitching...
I was thinking a saddle product?
even the rubber where the gear lever sits is intact and in good nick...the back parcel shelf leather and back of seats are perfect

POR 15 makes a treatment for leather called 'Leatherique' I have not used it but if it is as good as their other products it may be worth a go!

    Dear Rev dogboy,
What a score. The dream barn find with apparently little wrong with it. Just a thorough clean and you have yourself a very desirable DS. Why was it laid up all those years ago, is the engine working etc. I have always been intrigued by old leather and how it ages. When old leather is good it is very good as it wears it's age and just looks all the better for it. I saw an old car in Paris (one with a giant propeller [at the steam museum]) which must have been 100 years old and it still had the original leather. Amazing to think that it would last that long.
Anyway I look forward to seeing it on the road.
    cheers Tony

What's the leather like in the centre of the back seat rest - above where the arm folds in? That's always a good indicator. That particular spot - where the centre of the seat back meets the parcel shelf - seems to get all the sunlight and heat. The leather shrinks and splits the stitching. If yours is still soft at that spot, then you've got a good'un! Have you worked out where the mystery item goes?

    Very envious

Connolly's hide food is the old one and has a good record in restoration - spend a few weeks of repeated dosing without sitting on the leather or making it do any work and even old leather can come up quite well.

HAs been used successfully on "barn finds" from the '20's

    Best Wishes

    Andrew

And Connolly's would be my choice too. I' going to use it on the toughened centre back of my rear seat. They do a leather cleaner as well as 'hide food'.

    Hi Tony
A dream D that's for sure..listed on grays online..deceased estate near Newcastle...have talked to previous owners daughter..not sure what is wrong but radiator is out...will def be some work before she hits the road again...despite being laid up there is still some rust...hoping it is not to much given my purchase price of $22k
I can see another $10 spent just to get her on the road..any car sitting that long is going to require a bit of effort & $$$
The leather is soft...amazing...normally I wouldn't even put hide food on it such is the condition but I want to give her a feed to avoid it getting dry...
    The journey begins

I don't know where the mystery item goes...back seat area perhaps as it is a cubby hole...the top flips open...and l;eather is the same as the seats...never seen one before??

If the same as a 1974 D, the bonnet latches have a hole in their front panel. Get a bar, might need to bend/shape it. A long screw driver may work. Poke up between the bumper and the bonnet, push through hole to release the catch. Typical Citroen, "What you can see you can't reach and what you can reach, you can't see." .
Looks like an excellent car, no rust under the headlights always a good sign.
I am just about to begin resurrecting our shedded 1974 D Special, last registered in 1988 with 230k km. Wish us both luck.

Thanks...will go out & try that now
unfortunately there is what looks like the start of rust under front headlights...such is life
there is 98,000 kms on the clock...given it has only been on the road for 7 yrs that mileage may be correct

Yep. An awesome vehicle. I hope the mechanical areas are as good as the body and interior. By the look of the condition of the car generally and the interior in particular, the 96,000 Klms would have to be right. Good luck with the resto.

The mystery item looks like the box between the front seats of a Renault16TS. The 'leather' may turn out to be good quality vinyl.

Wow, those seats came up well. They look like mine do except that my drivers seat is very worn, even though my car had minimal use for 20 years before I got it.

Wow, those seats came up well. they look like mine except that my drivers seat is very worn, even though the car had minimal use in the 20 years before I bought it.
It looks like your headlining is sagging. I had to prop mine up with heavy wire hoops but one hot day with the windows open the headlining came down at the rear and showered us with tiny crumbs of the foam plastic backing.

The seats are so good because the car has only had 7 yrs of use...& 30 yrs in sheds...the roof has let go and yes...the foam under it has gone as has the cantral rail trim
