Strange one. i wisher the seller and any buyer well, but i can't help wondering why you spend 8 years on a conversion then offer it for sale as it's about to be finished. Maybe they just ran out of energy.

That happens with a lot of projects Budge. You got tired of working on it, or something came up in your real life, perhaps it was an inheritance (it was Grampa's project). Maybe you simply ran out of money.

Its Dogboy ! Strange cars for sale seem to appear in his garage regularly . More power to him, not that I'd spend the money he is usually asking , but where does he get them? !

If you're seriously considering a cabriolet, there are some very nice replicas, mostly German, which isn't a bad thing. Better than original in the couple that I have seen.

I almost like that sloped dash German made dťcap. Needs a second nose and red fluid to be spot on.

What year is the car being claimed as? A '68 could have the slope dash/third nose.

I believe it is listed as a 68. So wave dash, and 3rd front.

I didn't mean to suggest that car was a lash-up, more commenting on how it had some - but not all - of my favourite elements.

With the rise and rise of Chapron lore, I expect that in time, anything else Dee they built - like (say) a badly deteriorated Le Caddy - will be re-made as a dťcap and presented as more authentic than the German replicas, even though it too would substantially be a reproduction... This has happened with high end musical implements and the stakes are often similar.

I am reading and hearing the word "recreation" frequently. With certain marques available in such limited quantities manufacturers of replica motor cars are gaining their own status. Building their own brands, think Proteus, Eagle, there are others, I can't remember the guys in Argentina that do the Bugatti. The point is that good replicas will naturally find their own value and in some cases may even appreciate in value as others have shown. Finding someone that has a proven track record and is creating something that is as good or better than the original is the challenge, but, they are being done.

Gee's a lot a negativity ... I reckon it's brilliant. it doesn't pretend to be anything other than a convertible built out of parts from a variety of cars. I'm guessing the issue is the price. I imagine it would be a great way to have a lot of fun in a DS convertible at about 50% of the asking price.... it'll just stay for sale until it drops to a price the market decides it's worth.

You could modify this car to your own specification ... who cares, it's not a chapron, you can make it whatever you want. Anyone tempted by a CX GTi Turbo transplant with a 5spd BVH

I see a car someones put years of there life into trying to "make" a car they have always wanted.

There was recently a lovely DB4 GT zagato re-something coming from Cheltenham, the bespoke Jags from the South Island, and then the "factory" (- or whatever you call the descendants of the originals) aston martin sanctions and now jag lightweights ...
there is indeed a negative if it's not a car someones put years of there life into trying to "make" but a car they have had made for them overseas with oversight insufficient for satisfaction. While i'm all for having favourite outfits knock-offed in Hoi-an - I do like the hot-rod (sub-set) attitude of it's not what you could afford - what did you do yourself?

Yah, I think so. The classic Type 24 monoposto race car in French Blue. Correct in every detail, except no engine or trans.

You could also go with the guys in Texas building new DeLoreans out of spare parts

as per normal...the modern day web warrior sitting behind a safe keyboard...
able to make remarks they would never dare say to anyone in person..
Facts?? what are those? does it matter?

moderators take note...I'm all for informed words without an emotional take...
yes...state facts...let us know what the vehicle is like if you have seen it yourself..
I was about to pay $10k for donats old DS19 but after the B/S that went on this site the sale was poisoned and when the car went to auction I was the only one who bid so i got the DS for a steal...about $3500 by memory..
so that cost Donat $7k...feel good about yourselves now?
This Cabrio is now mine...I bought it from a CCCNSW member..it was his project..built for himself
That is why it is pretty accurate...there are of course still some things to do and I am working my way through them..
The issues the previous owner mentioned are all being attended to...
It took so long because James just wasn't happy with the result so he kept at it until it was right..
His wifes family have a workshop and oversaw the build...not your typical Vietnam bodge
    Heka build a replica...and that I believe is around $220,000 ...
I expect this car to go to USA as it is lhd and the exchange rate will make the price favourable..
I hope to have some enjoyment before I sell her but as with all of my cars...none are here for good excepting the 2CV...my current fixation is a Porsche Boxster S and a VW Kombi camper
Hope to have the Cabrio here for Bastille day so anyone who is interested to see how good/bad this Cabrio is can view it....at least then you may know what you are talking about...
