A mate of mine has just procured a new geared Starter Motor from the UK (Auto Electric Supplies) and we are having problems fitting it Has anyone here attempted this?

I have seen this one on the net but not in the flesh. You are supposed to be able to rotate the mounting plate so it will fit into place. It looks awful big to be fitting in between the crankcase and those exhaust headers. Maybe you need to contact the supplier to get exact fitting instructions for your particular model SM.

    Cheers, Ken

Initially it was hitting the sump,on rotating the mounting plate one hole it now hits the heat shield on the downpipe, that will have to do.Now access to the upper mounting hole is obscured so I will have to fit an M10 stud in the bell housing!!!

If you can get it inside the door panel you're laughing.

Maybe they or you could make a plate with holes in an intermediate position?

It would make one hell of a window regulator!

It seems I finally have competition :-)

(For what it's worth, mine fit right out of the box and also have a heat shield)

There are a couple of SMs in Australia with your starter fitted - mine included.
