    Default TA starter to 12v

    Good morning:

How can I take out the starter on the TA? It doesn't go under the manifold ...

BTW I'll switch to 12v: Will I need to rewire the starter?

    Thanks!

    Two options:-
1 Release the rear engine mount from inside the firewall and jack the motor!
    2 Remove the engine manifold.

The 6 volt starter will spin very well on 12 volts, but as you have found it does not come out all that easily due to its larger diameter. A 12 volt Lucas starter is easier to remove and refit. You would need to rewire a solenoid system to operate it unless you can obtain a prewar version with the cable pull switch!

Or if you want, you can get one of my 12V gear reduction starters for T/A and 1911cc DS/ID. Weight ~5Kg :-)
