    Icon10 I've done it!!!!!!

After 20 Peugeots, starting with a '59 403 purchased in 1967, and ending with three 406 Diesels, I have bought my FIRST Citroen, a 2008 C5 . Now, the only question is 'Which 406 will have to go?'

Bugger me, we must have been separated at birth.

After about 10 or 12 Peugeots over nearly 40 years, I have bought my first Citroen, a 2010 C5 diesel.

I have only one 406 to go, but it is still a hell of a car.

In fact who knows, I may end up keeping them both!

Welcome to the fold. Tell us more about your C5. Is it an X7? 2.0l, sedan or tourer. How many Kms has it travelled?

I have had our 2008 C5X7 since April 2009 and so far so good (after a few teething problems that were sorted during warranty).

I would recommend that both of you get at least 4 litres of Penrite fully synthetic ATF through your AM6 auto gearboxes ASAP. It should dramatically improve shift smoothness and hopefully extend the life of your solenoids.

    Cheers, Ken

It is the six speed Hdi sedan 122K . I was encouraged by the fact that a friend has a similar car with similar Kms.

Have finally picked up my new car, the red 2010 C5 sedan Comfort HDi, 63k km. Drove it Melbourne to Sydney, got 5.2l/100 at mostly 95 average, the M5E brought that down to 88.

It is very quiet, and deceptively fast. How many times did I think to check after just gently overtaking, to find that I was going 125.

Tyres are original Michelin HP, which are now unavailable, and the battery I suspect is the original Varta, and reads 18v with engine off.

As this is my first Citroen, a few questions for the cognoscenti :

    - what is the difference between an X7 and a non X7 ?

    - tyres will need replacing soon, bewildered at what to get. My tyre guy says either P7 or CPC5, no more Michies in stock at the moment in this size, and not to get any Bridgestone.

    - anything I need to know about the sports suspension, and/or raising or lowering the car? All the buttons work, wondering if there is a preferred setting.

    - same for gearbox, I have yet to use the manual change. any advantage?

    - is the local diesel ok? it says to use low sulphur. Dealer swears by Caltex and swears at BP, but I have also heard exactly the opposite.

I am still trying to RTFM, it is 300 pages! Any advice appreciated.

    Chris
