    Default Xantia Resonator Replacement

I need to replace the resonator in my series 1 Xantia to pass its annual roadworthy. The local exhaust place gave me the option of a standard $140 replacement or a Citroen $300 replacement. He mentioned that another Citroen owner insisted on the genuine article, though he himself didn't think there was any difference.

Has anyone any strong thoughts/experience on this? My natural instinct is to pay for the standard version and spend the "saved" $160 on cigarettes and whisky and wild eyed women.

Get the free-est flowing option! Your Xantia may not have a turbo, but your exhaust needs to breathe regardless . I had a Xantia Turbo CT exhaust system rebuilt with non-genuine mufflers & cat, and it went at least as well as standard (perhaps a little louder though!)

    Cheers

I would fit a genuine unit, they last longer.

However there is a suspicion I harbour, that you just wanted one "anorak" level response before going with the cheaper option anyway.

And travel 70 kms each way, when the local one is maybe 400m away? I'll take the local and cheap option. Its my wife's car and she is half deaf. When I drive I have the music on, so a slightly louder exhaust won't worry me. Anyhow, the high level brake light has all but disintegrated the shroud, so it makes quite a racket.

It is not me that feels I have a crook exhaust, its the pink slipper. Since the car is due for rego on Wednesday, the quick and cheap option will have to do.

I am the other owner who insisted on the original. Only a marginal improvement but I was chasing a noise that was hard to eliminate

I took my car to the exhaust man. Left it for a few hours and when I came to collect he told me the exhaust system is OK in that it is not leaking. The cat convertor may be on its way out and the heat shields are a bit ratty, but you are OK to live for another day.

The pink slipper accepted that and the car is now re-registered.

I now have more to spend on those wild-eyed women.
