Hey guys. Can the brainy people tell me what this was? Oil temp sensor maybe?? (That gauge doesn't work).

I can't remember which motor you have, but this Series II doc may be useful - http://www.ckc.dk/pubs/bx2_19.pdf

Yes that is the oil temp sensor. Looks like you'll be doing an oil and filter change to replace that one. I wonder where the wires ended up.. A quick photo of mine for reference

Looks like someone slipped when undoing the sump plug! Yes, oil temp.

BX People, What goes here?-oil-temp-sensor-wire-small-.jpgI think I have found the wire (I hope it's only one..) there's a cut off wire in the pair that go to the other sensor/switch thing in the engine block (Don't know what that is either!). I would think the oil temp sensor is just a single wire (like the coolant temp sensor), & earths through the sump. One should ground the wire & see if the oil temp gauge moves, but I am no where near being able to turn the ignition on (NO battery in it, wires everywhere & much stuff pulled to bit's). What's with Citroen's wiring?? Did they just buy half a dozen colours & wire the car with that?? I haven't mastered their wiring schematics yet...
