New or used, plenty of early C5s being wrecked, I replaced mine with one from a 306 diesel, exact same part number and spins like a top - around $120.0 delivered from memory.

    Cheers

Check out cost to repair starter. Starters from the wreckers can have limited life left.
No worries if you are selling the car though

In my case I needed the car back on the road same day, I had no intention of selling the car. Part was ordered from a Brisbane Euro parts recycler and delivered by their courier for $120.00 total that afternoon. Fitted around 5 years ago and still going strong. The part was marked with the ks of the car it was retrieved from, in my case something like 64k. . .

I kept my old starter, it has subsequently been used to build one starter from two by a forum member.

It will help if you have removed your starter and can give the make and part number.

At $125.00 delivered I'd risk the ebay item. . .

    Check new price with EAI
    EAI: Starter Motors and Alternators

. . .or as has been suggested, take yours to a sparky and have it rebuilt.

Good to see you are out of trouble

For future reference it appears that starter is used in 106 different model PSA cars - many not sold here but still a common part and shouldn't be difficult to source good used.

Most of the ebay starters come from China where they are made for ***ang and PSA Models. Our family have bought a few and they seem to be good enough.

You'll need to apostrophise or hyphenate that marque, to get it past the censor:

FWIW I swapped the actual motor from a spare BX unit into my XM starter years ago. I traded in the XM about 6 months later so I am not sure of whether that starter lasted. The motors on the two units were identical just the mounting and interconnection with the engine were different.

This is not to say that a BX one would have got you out of C5 troubles.

My old 2003 hdi c5 developed a starter fault. It was removed at the local auto electrician. It was a Mitsubishi. He got one from a local ( Tasi) parts supplier and it was fitted within 2 days. Common to many cars.
