    Default Citroen FAF ??

    Hi
I am in Indonesia currently, Java, Semarang. Not a Citroen in site here, some Pugs of current'ish vintage and interestingly in another city a couple of older FIATs. 124 specials, a 1500 and even an 1800/2300 UTE of all the surprises, went past the other way.

However while in a market I saw this poster among some others of cars which were probably advertising material from past times. A Citroen FAF. WTF is that. A derivitive of a Meharie perhaps.

Steel Mehari. Often found in the middle East. Predecessor of the NAMCO Pony, built in Greece.

There was the odd BX around last time I was in Jakarta. And various current Peugeots.

Joint venture in Indo. 2CV chassis with Indo body. Ugly as sin and a pile of shert apparently!

Reading the link imagine trying to start up a version here! Our motoring production industry could do with a boost, imagine trying to get one of these babies past ADR! Pity. If people went back to no brainer bog simple vehicles without every bell and ehistle available ( which mostly are to no real avail) then we could be belting around in cars that would go and go be cheap and fun to use.

It's a great idea that is often mentioned, but car makers will tell you that in real terms simple no frills cars simply don't sell.
I'd love to see the days of the Meharis and 2cv again, but am afraid they are gone forever.
Looks like the closest we are going to get to the no frills philosophy here in Australia is the Cactus. Can't wait to test drive it.
