Default Wanted: DS Speedo in kilometers!

Would anyone have a working spare speedo for a 1970 /third nose DS they would like to sell? Or swap for a mileage one with "only" 48000 miles on it...

Just a suggestion, try eBay France or Germany.
The measure of your character isn't what you do when people are watching- it's what you do when they aren't watching.

They are around locally as all the later cars sold here needed them. There were also stick on faces in km to effect a conversion. It's a very simple speedo and the odometer is easily 'clocked' as part of a resto should you open it up.

I got mine from french ebay. Was the simplest way of getting one as there are many to choose from

The advantage of a MPH speedo is that you can argue in a court of law that the speedo was reading 50 when the police reckon you were doing 80.

    Bump!

Still looking for a speedo in klm! eBay France = E150... I don't think so. Am not that desperate.

Also question: should the tripmeter reset just by pushing the button down, or do you have to push and turn? Mine appears to be push and turn, but vaguely remember it being only push when I bought the car. But cannot see what could have changed, so maybe my memory has tricked me (wouldn't be be first time)

    Hi Sven,

I'm sure I've got a few in the attic if you're ok with postage from NZ. I'll climb up this weekend and see what I've got.

    Regards,

    Danny

Yes please! That's much appreciated. Postage from NZ is ok and I am happy to pay for the speedo as well. Just not 150 Euros.

    Hi Sven,

No joy with the speedo, unfortunately. Just found the one in the attic but it was also a mph one! I think I may have already given the kph one away as the binnacle was undamaged. Usually the corners break off where people over tighten them. All is not lost though. A friend of mine is a Citroen specialist and may be able to help. He would have broken plenty of these, I’ll give him a call and see what he can do. Sorry for the mess around but I'll keep trying.

    Regards,

    Danny

Thanks Danny... otherwise don't worry, I can live with the mileage one...

My Renault has a similar issue. I put a new instrument cluster in from a much higher performing car. The new dash has a tachometer , which is what I wanted. The speedo, though, it's in MPH, with beige Km/h readings. I enjoyed traveling at the speed limit on the 100Km/h limit ( judged by others) showing that I'm getting a higher reading.

The thrill of the sensation of speed without the fine. I can hardly hear the Bose stereo over the wind noise with the windows wound down manually.

I think that being a bit out of alignment can be fun.

Oh, and fuel economy is OUTRAGEOUS.
I've collected figures in the 5/100 litre range. LOL

    Hi Sven

here you are... a tad cheaper than 150.

Compteur KilomŤtrique Citroen DS ID 97197 KM C7 | eBay

Check his store... he probably has others. I got mine off EBay.fr... an easy swap.

Yehhh, nah. Strict liability offence. Pity though. I have a MPH speedo.

Why worry? My first two cars were MPH, all you need to remember is 30 35 50 and 60. And just cruise it.
