Default Cooling Fans staying on - 07 C4 Hdi

Noticed recently the cooling fans have been staying on after a drive, sometimes up to 15 minutes after.
It isnt hot around here, maybe 22 at most, fully serviced and fresh coolant a month or so ago.
I understand that it may need to cool itself, thats fine, but when i can walk out to the car an hour after driving it and then the fan kicks in again when i open the door, i think something maybe up.
Any ideas or suggestions as to what could be going on?

    Car is a 07 C4 Hatch 1.6 Hdi Manual.

Could be either the coolant temp sensor or the fan control unit in a box on the radiator support panel. I think the latter is likely if they keep running from memory and I presume this is what bobsie means. Anyway, take it out and see if you can see anything visibly wrong with it. I have a vague memory of thinking it was somehow repairable if you could buy the thermal switch (small disc type as I recall) in the circuit, but replacement is probably safest.

Would going through a car wash effect it at all?

Shouldn't. Could be coincidence, but would high pressure water have reached the control unit on the radiator support?

Not really sure. Wouldnt have thought so but maybe? Are they on the engine side of the support or the outer?

Ahead of the radiator and to the left from memory. Small black plastic box.

And check your battery. I know that sounds odd, but on a car with a CANBUS system (almost everything built today) the voltage levels are extremely important, at rest or running. A battery that's just a little naff can cause some really weird problems. Ensure the terminals are corrosion free.
