    Default D Steering column bearing

As I have presently got the Steering col. housing on the bench having just dealt with the gear change column bearings, I thought I may as well check out the steering col bearings as well. The bearing consist of a number of 6mm balls in an uncaged separable assembly. The bearing will accept a max of 26 balls ,however 12 balls have been replaced with 2 plastic spacers,I am racking whats left of my brains trying to work out what is going on hear,I think I will fit 26 new balls!Any enlightenment anywhere??

The spacers are legitimate Citroen and I think there should be more than two. Fairly sure they are shown in the parts book.

    Yes, 648 shows 3 x 5.5mm nylon spacers and 9 x 6mm balls

The Déesse has all the characteristics of one of those objects fallen from another universe that fed the mania for novelty in the eighteenth century and a similar mania expressed by modern science fiction: the Déesse is first and foremost the new Nautilus.

Probably just less expensive than the ball bearings that were omitted. They may also have had some slight springy quality to keep the balls under slight load and prevent noises from falling bearings as you turn.

Or maybe the race diameter was not an exact multiple of the ball diameter?
