    Default The Hydropneumatic Song

Apparently widely cited by the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, though the Encyclopedia Galactica refuses to acknowledge it.

Thanks to Eric Idle for the original.

Whenever life gets you down, Mrs.Brown
And things seem hard or tough
And people are stupid, obnoxious or daft
And you feel that you've had quite enough...

Just remember that you're riding on a spaceship that is rolling
And flowing at one hundred miles an hour
That's pumping more that 60 bars each second, so it's reckoned
Green oil through tubes that give you a lot of power

The car and you and me and all the sights that we can see
Can glide through a few hundred miles a day
With a very special charm, at very decent pints an hour
On any surface that may come our way

Our lovely car itself contains more oil than other cars
It rolls so very nicely side to side
It bulges in the middle, and streamlines towards the back
Where it's narrow, while up at the front it's wide.

We're pretty friggin' lucky to have made it to this point
And to keep rolling after all these years
'Cause of moving parts you got about some hundreds or thousands
That can fail in ways unseen by engineers.

The gas in your green spheres keeps on contracting and expanding
The green oil doesn't even really fizz
As smooth as it can go, the feel of silk, you know
Just a tiny bit of hissing, and that's the finest feel there is

So remember, when you're feeling very small and insecure
How amazingly unlikely is your mirth
And pray that there's a spare parts dealer somewhere 'round the place
where you can get them just for what they're worth.

I like it. It's danceable and has a nice beat.
The measure of your character isn't what you do when people are watching- it's what you do when they aren't watching.

Well I tried to stick as close as possible to the original, endings and all.
The only ones that are slightly off, actually, are "thousands" and "back".
Back is close enough to thick, thousands... I couldn't quite use billions - well, I could, but I think it's OK

P.S. The chords are very simple, and it's very easy to sing, as you can just about speak it.

    Love it.
Now all it needs is someone to choose a suitable Left Bank location, wear a beret, strum a guitar, sing it and post it on U-Tube. You wouldn't want to hear my voice. Any takers?
Or take the score and background it to a lovely clip of a Dee floating through French countryside.
Love it yet I know I'm going to be humming this all day and will have trouble getting it out of my head..

    I'll ask my friend Desirée.
I once mentioned to her I had a DS, she said, cool, my grandfather has one.
I said does he use it? She said, nah, it's in a barn somewhere.
I thought pity... then one day I thought, hmmm, maybe granddad got a cabrio in the barn all covered in guano, wants to give it away for free... ;·)

So I went to see her at a concert, showed her the car... what her granddad has is probably a Traccion :·/
She liked the D though, so maybe...

I love it. Once addicted to fluid ride, other cars just don't feel the same.
