I once had a complete software reload, complete with updates, if any, under warranty. It was supposed to fix a problem. It took a touch over half an hour.

I have a computer upgrade for you. Made for the early GM 'Computer Command Control' systems, but should work just fine here.

That's the least abused one I've seen for years. You really are a gentle soul.

Yah, I like keeping my tools in good order- at least up until someone steals them again.

My younger brother took my pristine example on a camping trip to hammer in the tent pegs and it never came back grrrrr.
Any day I wake up and don't have to go to work, is a good day

True dat. I can accept if it comes back (honestly) broken or bent. Stuff does happen. There is NO reason for a tool to not come back at all though.

Getting back to the original post:

Any luck yet, Tasie? Looks like Seasink has your answer....

Thanks Hotrod. Your remedy application looks like one I have had for many years. Have only changed the shaft 3 times and the head 5 but it is the same one and remains effective.
By the way, has anyone had a engine computer "upgrade" to produce lots more power and economy. The local maintenance manager at the dealer does not like them at all.

That's fodder for the UK crowd mostly. Consensus seems to be you get what you pay for with the tuning boxes and reflashes. Ask Mark Lightfoot, AKA "Lighty" on a forum there. Or call him at work right now.
