Default My Saturday night Grease solo

    Hi All

So what have you been doing this saturday night?

I thought for entertainments sake I would pull out my LHS driveshaft so that I could replace the torn boot.

Now it's come time to put it back in, and instead of it sliding home nicely, there is a big chunk of cylindrical metal that is blocking it, just near the centre where it meets the RHS driveshaft.

    What is this?
    Why is it there?
Are there any tricks to getting it back where it should be, or is it just a wiggle back up?

On the plus side I now have plans for Sunday morning! Hopefully the night time fairy will fill me in insight which I can use in the morning

    Now the useful stuff:
    Cit BX 1986,
BE1 gearbox (ie the early now, reverse top left of 1st)

LOL, were you spying on me as I swore and refitted driveshafts by torchlight yesterday night through to about half eleven?

That cylinder's the crosspin for your diff gears. It won't go past there. Try rotating it slightly.

The nasty risk is that your tripod joint has come out of the cup and that's why the driveshaft seems too long. :-(

    All done.

I was just being a duffer and not looking properly.

I thought the splines started at the start, so that if it was lined up then it was all good. Turns out that the 'hard' thing I was hitting was the splined area with the shaft not lined up.

That will teach me to start doing work on a saturday night at 8pm in the dark, with my brain turned off!

Car all back together, new discs, new pads, new boot. all set for another 27 yrs

Did I do anything last night that suggested I was sane?
