    Default Engine oil.leak

    Dear brains trust,
Our 69 ID has developed a bad engine oil leak . It is dripping from the rear of the engine down onto the throttle linkage under back of engine. Any fix is going to require the engine out. I can imagine that the only possible source of leak can be the timing cover? Does this sound right, is there other possible sources? ( currently touring in Qld and not prepared to get under her without stands etc)

Have you tried the rocker cover?

Once in a while a bolt falls out of the timing cover. Set the car up safely and have a look see.

could be the sump too! look for start of oil, wipe anything back there you can reach, which will be pretty difficult unfortunately, then drive then check again, that should start narrowing it down surely?
one of those dooby wacker mirrors might be very handy with a torch illuminating the areas too!

Doesn't the oil feed pipe to the head go round the back there somewhere?

Have returned to home base, oil leak still not located, used 3 litres over 22 hrs driving. Doesn't continue to leak when not running.
Had a tyre go flat whilst cruising at 110k, as advertised D tracked true, only a whiff of rubber then the rumble of a ruined tyre.
Also caught a glimpse of Buttercup Bobs 2CV heading the other way as we came thru Tamworth.
Will search further for leak now that I have ramps at hand.
