    Default D Safari rear wheels

    I was walking along a line of DS at the weekend as you do, at the EuroCitro event, and kind of did a double take on this Safari. Hope the photo uploads ok, it shows the rear wheels sitting out quite a lot wider than normal. A bit odd, but must admit it looked good compared with standard. I checked they we're normal size tyres, well 185 15's.

    Just wondered if anyone had seen something like this before? Presume it had spacers to push each wheel out. Car was in France with US plates, didn't manage to see the owner.

    While taking these i was told by the guy who owned this;

    that the part of the panel acting as spat was cutaway so that when conditions dictated
    sand - in Marathon/Safari events
    rear wheels could be / were flipped around, so as to follow in the tracks of the front ...
    (any application elsewhere is not being promoted by me)

    That looks a bit weird for my taste.

    ...Or should I say a bit too 'normal'

    Possibly spacers, although I couldn't even begin to guess why. I wonder if the rear track on an SM is that much wider than a D. Supposedly much of the SM suspension components were D sourced. I don't know if that includes the rear arms. May have also been an attempt at a disc brake conversion.
