Default CX parts - Drivers window

    Hey Froggy folk,

Just wondering if someone out there can assist.

i purchased a GTi from Melbourne back in June and am trying to sort out a couple of issues.

My main problem is the driver's window. Motor is stuffed, but someone has also fiddle with the window assembly.

It's been recommended to replace the lot. Does anyone know a good place to start to source these bits? Anyone have wreck that I could cannibalise? "Yvette" is an 85 CX25 GTi Manual.

    Cheers
    Andrew

I've never heard of a motor dying, does it work if you hotwire it straight from the battery Either way if you post up a piccie of the motor, I'm sure I'll have one that's the same here somewhere.

    Hi Andrew,
I have some window motor assemblies which I guess have come out of 2400's. (Surely Citroen didn't redesign the assembly between the 2400 & 2500 models !).

I'm also in Sydney (inner west).
    PM me if interested.

Just a suggestion, Andrew: you might want to talk at CX Basis. What is your driver window is their passenger window. What I'm getting at is comparable wear. The passenger side is less likely to be worn than the driver side.

BTW, the 85 is the last of the Series 1.5 cars with the chrome bumpers.

I've got stacks of those motors here ... If it is actually dead (the early ones brake there housings ... I've never heard of one electrically dying) .... I can send one up .... I have enough spares to last about 50 lifetimes I still need to know what sort it is (ie: piccie)

Got ya, Shane. My thought was more along the lines of the winder mech. A break in the housing? Yah, I'd say that qualifies as a stuffed motor.

CX2400 and CX2500 window winder mechanisms are different in detail. They sort of look the same, but they are not interchangeable. The doors also have the mechanism mounting holes in different places. So you will need replacement parts from a 2500.

As Shane says, I've never seen one that has failed completely. The usual electrical problem is broken wires in the loom where it passes thru the door hinge area. The window winder switches also get dirty contacts. A pressure pack of electrical contact cleaner will usually fix the switch.

The mechanical parts of the mechanism would benefit from cleaning and adjusting. The nylon slides do wear a bit and the grease gets old and dries out.

I put an 86 Bx window moter in Andy's 76 Cx wagon and it works a treat.

Thank you all for the feedback and offers of assistance. Quite a few distraction so including being made redundant.

I finally bit the bullet and took the car out to European Automotive who sorted the window, drivers door lock and the blue slip.

Gti is now registered in NSW!

    Thanks again.

    Cheers
    Andrew
