    Default HP belt length.

    Hi all

I replaced the HP belts on the DecidedlySpecial with a "matched" set but when I tension up the pump, one seems a tad longer than the other. Is it critical that they are equal? i.e. will it put strain on the bearings or something?? The second belt is just a back up isn't it?

    Thanks

    Matthew

You do not have a matched pair Matthew. I'd be peeved if I were you.

Vee belts rely on the wedging action between belt and pulley to transmit load. Two belts are better than one. Try lifting a bad of cement on your own.

Whilst one may fulfil the task it will do so by increasing the tension in the belt and thus the friction in the vee.

Nevertheless, I have no idea on the phylosophy behind the original design to answer you as to whether it was set up "as a spare".

I'd go for 2 matched belts.

    John
