    Default Citroen Wrecking Victoria.

Thought I'd start a thread on wrecking in Victoria as the cars are hard to find hiding in small wreckers etc.

Just had a delivery to a wreckers in Coolaroo who just got in their first ever Citroen, a silver Xsara sports coupe.

Location Transformers Wrecking, 50 Kyabram St Coolaroo. PH 1300 138524.

Good idea. Is anyone wreaking a Havoc yet? Recent model I've heard. Goes like stink apparently.

Where was that XM in a yard some where near Melbourne? It might be useful to note it down if it's still there. Was it a 4 cyl manual?

We see lots of Havoc around Canberra recently, leaving a strange odour, they seem to come and go from other states

No gentlemen, it's 'Automotive recycling'. It's the green PC term for the same old thing.

How long until wreckers become "sustainable transport consultants"?

A long time I hope at $2000 plus per day consultancy fees that they all seem to charge!
Seriously though to realign the thread back to its original intention! I do not know of anyone other than Mr Cavanagh who undertakes automotive recycling of 'Froggies' on a commercial basis. Shane this is a career opportunity for you! You have the beginnings of a healthy stock level already!
We had a large wrecking yard up the highway at Colac. He found it very hard to make a quid and shut up shop and now only handles scrap metal recycling. This is more lucrative for him than breaking and reselling parts. To my knowledge he never had Citroens in his yard.
Perhaps the era of people willing to keep the old clunkers running by regular visits to the wreckers yard is dying. People just renew the whole vehicle instead of the offending part!
    Cheers Gerry

Being down there in Mexico, all the beans and tacos would ensure the wreakers have a certain sameness about them and it won't be the aroma of LHM mixed with coolant.

Recent cars will not last long in a city yard as there simply isn't the space. Once the parts are not of much interest, the cars are of little value. Only the fastest moving items would be kept and the rest sent to scrap quickly. Also, the changes to the NSW write-off laws preventing rebuilding of accident damaged cars except in limited cases has stopped many formerly very busy wreckers in their tracks.

Also, many of the large scale wreckers won't store a whole car. It will be dismantled, all of the saleable pieces labelled and stored in a warehouse. Shells are then sold for scrap value...

Dropped in on way home from work.

    1 x Xantia Series I Hatch
    2 x C3s light green (1 caught fire)
1 x C5 Series I (donk gone but spheres still there)
    1 x Berlingo Series I
    1 x Xsara

    No Breaks

Was after 55 bar spheres for GS. The Xantia was 50 bar. Rear spheres had '2013' tipexed on them (some were lying in the dirt) I placed them all in the boot if anyone is after some. Imlach claimed $15 per sphere. Absolute bargain if you're into buying cows in the moonlight.

Maate I love wrecking yards. Its like a picnic. Had a '79 Porsche, some BMs (the nice ones - 3 series before they became ugly), Saabs - bit drab.

A forklift came along to move a Pug 203 and picked it up by piercing the windscreen. Oh the hood lining!?

All down at the Euro corner, take a cut lunch (and some gum boots - was a bit muddy).

The breaks are on the flat to the left of the "cit area" you need to go a few rows over, every things a bit mixed up there. Can't see them both gone in only a short time.

Spheres are a bit hard to deal with and value unless you can test them and know exactly what they were intended to fit. You would not want the suspension spheres from a Hydractive Xantia as the dampers will be wrong for a GS - look at the diameter of the hole in the end of the damper. Tiny on a Hydractive car and only useful for another Hydractive car. The regulator sphere in the middle at each end of a Hydractive Xantia is essentially an accumulator at a different pressure - useful only as an accumulator on other models like a GS. You can regas them to the standard 62 Bar if they are still OK, but they may be OK as is. Remember that the pressure quoted is a nominal pressure and a little flat is OK. I think it's 35 Bar minimum for a 62 Bar accumulator. So, a 50 Bar sphere would do the 55 Bar job assuming the damper and volume are suitable for the GS.

Factory C5 spheres are quite expensive, so $15 is a bargain if they are still OK. They last a very long time, unlike most of the green ones you will encounter. Again, they are different depending on the model and position. So, you wouldn't try to use a C5 Hydractive+ sphere on a basic Hydractive car. C5/C6 spheres are also designed to rupture if overloaded and are riveted closed, so can't be regassed unless you use the Tecnosir conversion and are happy to drill the rivet out.

Flipper - The Cits were in the south east corner. I also looked around that vicinity - went up to Chrysler area, Mercs and the rest surrounding was Jap stuff. Quizzed the forklift driver but his English wasn't that great or couldn't give a stuff. As you suggest, the breaks must be gone.

That's weird as i was told the Cit's where in the back middle and the two estates to the left of that. But i was also told they where cleaning things up. Because the estates where over on the left they might have missed them in the clean up. Sounds like they have a new area.
