    Default XM Silver Anniversary

Surprise - the XM is 25!

It was launched at Eurexpo in Lyon on 23rd May, 1989 - 25 years ago today.

The DS was described by Roland Barthes as having fallen from the sky. There is some irony that, despite its spaceship looks, the XM entered the world in quite the opposite way: in an event reminiscent of an Olympic opening ceremony crossed with Eurovision, an American political rally and that Stanley Kubrick film, the XM rose from the earth to rapturous applause of 15000 gathered CitroŽniste.

The Youtube clip shows the whole thing with the (largely unrealized) dreams, hopes and aspirations of CitroŽn management figuring heavily. The car makes its entrance around 7 minutes in.

Apparently ... 'Smooth as a slice of brie!'

The flags of the world included one for a market that must have taken only a very small number of cars. Perhaps, under 150?

Marvellous cars. Maybe we should start a register before it's too late. What would be the earliest one in the country? RP number of the Seidler car is 5057.

CitroŽn's official celebration of the occasion on facebook (https://www.facebook.com/Citroen) has a particularly Australian flavour.

Their photos, and a few more, appeared on Aussiefrogs first: XM appreciation society

Seidler's was the first XM I laid eyes on. Wouldn't surprise me if it was the first one in Oz.

WA owners could possibly treat their XM to a birthday present with a new windscreen at a bargain price:

Default Driving at night with the XM

As a new owner, I love driving my newly acquired XM. It is nice and soft, and wonderfully unique and comfortable. I would have like the ride to be softer at lower speeds, but I think it did continue the tradition of Big Citroens as being different by design, different (and wonderful) to drive.
