    Default Xantia Manual Gear Change

Noticed the gears in the 5 speed Xantia are getting a bit tight, notchy and occasionally hard to change (sounds like a relationship).

Is there anything I need to consider before I become surprised?

"Xantia Clutch Replacement" might be an alternative thread title...

I had a 406 V6 manual with 200K kms that developed similar symptoms.
    2nd gear was especially notchy.
When I took the car to a different service centre they replaced the gearbox oil. It was disgusting because my previous mechanic had regarded it as sealed for life.
Within hours the functionality of 2nd gear and the whole box was vastly improved.
Potentially a cheap fix. Try an oil change first is my suggestion.

    Cheers,

    David

Try lubricating your linkages. My old 206cc was getting really hard to change at 3 years old - just out of warranty. Trivetts wanted to rebuild the gearbox. AP Automotive lubricated the linkages and I never looked back!
    Cheers,
    Michael

G70 is a possible additive, if the difficulties began with selecting reverse it's still likely to be clutch wear.

Some manual Xantias have standard type master/slave cilinder setups like my 97 CT. When I purchased mine a couple of years back the clutch would not work, eventually found the reservoir tucked in the fire wall out of sight. There was no brake fluid in system so I filled it and pumped the clutch for a few days and now its as good as new.

I'm pretty sure only CT turbos have hydraulic clutches, the rest have a cable with the dreaded plastic clip
