    Default 2005 c5 $800

A 2005 c5 for $800! there got to be a catch & there is, it has no motor or gearbox other than that it is complete & undamaged, silver in colour.188000ks diesel,i brought it sight unseen then found it was the update model so is diferent to my petrol 2003 c5. there are some motor parts-turbo,head, manifold etc, drive shafts & 2 keys. it would be a shame to wreck it as the body is perfect.if a home cannot be found for it i will part it out.
    cheers

So why not scare up a motor and trans for it?

i considered buying a written off c5 & fitting the motor & trans but i'm happy with my 2003 c5 which has only 120000ks on it & is petrol (never worked on a diesel) also SWMBO says a c5,peugeot 306 cab, peugeot 604sl, 79cx c-matic 77,cx 5 speed,84 moto guzzi v65sp & a 76 moto morini 350 is enough hopefully having forgotten about the bmw k100 in the shed being fitted with a sidecar.

Is this a 2.2 HDi 4 speed discussed here a few months ago with a bent rod and possibly overheated? Another engine is the most sensible solution. If the damaged engine hasn't been scrapped, changing the bent rod is not impossible, but probably more work than can be justified. The turbo alone could recover a good portion of the purchase cost. They are a good model to own with a couple of precautions taken.

Sounds like you've run out of space. My suggestion would be to sell off the MotoGuzzi.

hotrodelectric, Definitely no to selling the guzzi it stays till they cancel my licence - 110000ks & it only stopped once when the (bosch) alternator rotor went open circuit,if anything goes it's the peugeot 306 cabriolet as the clutch is a pain (literaly).

Yes it is that one, the block has gone for scrap & the trans must still be out the back of Coffs harbour but no loss as 160000 to 200000 ks seems to be the average life of a al4 trans before big bucks need to be spent.
it would be a great project for a low klms wover doner vehicle but i have neither the time or inclination.

It had a ZF 4HP20 gearbox, not an AL4, but it would only be useful in another car the same. You can't really use a 160-200K rule on an AL4 as some failed well inside 100K and others have managed 400K+ and still going strong. All you can do is assess the current condition in light of the service and driving history and then maintain. The economics of the situation mean that a failed gearbox (or engine) usually heralds the end!

Sacrilege, keep the Guzzi and Morini, but if you have any small children, consider selling one.

Hey you can completely rebuild an AL4 for around $500-$600. ZF around the same. And you wouldn't have to waste a day pulling it out. If you had one that is.
Pity the workin's are gone, I think the previous jumped the gun a bit but that's only my opinion, different circumstances for each of us, but conrods can be straightened and resized, valves can be replaced, crankshafts can be re-trued. Etc. Ahhhh Me.
