    Default Early DS/ID part

I've been messing with early D's for many years, but I was recently given a part which I had not seen before. Unfortunately, it wont photograph well so I'll have to describe. It's a plastic disc (probably nylon) 115mm dia, about 2mm thick, with a central hole 20mm dia. Probably natural nylon colour originally but has aged to yellow.
It is plain on the front, and on the rear it has raised lettering which can be read from the front.
It fits on the securing pin of the DS/ID jacking arrangement.
    The instructions are thus:

NE PAS PEINDRE LA PARTIE CACHEE
    PAR CET ECRAN

    MAINTENIR

    LES MOYEUX ET LE VIS
    PROPRES ET GRAISSES

Anyone seen this before, and can we have a translation?

    Don't paint the bit underneath
Then - at a slight guess...

Maintain the hubs and screws (wheel bolts) with the correct greases.

Yah, I have seen them. It goes on the jack pin/hubcap tool. Spare wheel-jack stand-jack pin-plastic thingamabob-tire strap. I'm not sure of the translation. I **think** from MAINTENIR it's advising to keep the center wheel stud and mount flange properly lubricated. Harrison Citroen will have a better idea. If he doesn't respond here, I'm sure a PM will do.

Yes I have seen this before. It merely keeps dust and grit off the inside of the hexagon on the spare wheel when it is not fitted to the hub. It should be kept lightly greased ready for use. The warning is against applying paint to the inside of the hexagon. Makes sense if you want good metal to metal contact on the hub.
    Cheers Gerry
