Icon12 Shortage of C5 X7 available second hand?

    Hi Froggers,

I think too many of you are out there looking for cheap C5 X7 models to buy. During this week I received the attached letter from Citroen Australia. I am not sure what the marketing strategy going on here is but I thought I would share it with you so we can have a discussion about what we think it might be. Enjoy.

    Cheers,

    Ken W

A quick look found more than 50 on the car sales websites. Some are 2011 and 2012 cars with nothing on them but still sold as new. I was offered two as a very good single buy only last year. I think you are looking at a salesman's beat-up.

If Sime Darby was serious they would be looking at competitive pricing of C3 and C4 for the Seduction models upward, where they have real competition.

We also received that letter. It would be for a 'lesser' car than what we currently have as they appear to have reduced the spec of the base model!

We got one too. A simple but good marketing ploy I'd reckon. That's what we put it down to.

Just working though their inherited list of previous owners I'd guess. However, they evidently didn't contact any current dealers to glean intelligence about some of their ongoing clients and possibly to tailor the letter a bit.

Looks like an amateur attempt at sales spin.

    Hi
What can one say, Citroen marketing at it's usual crap level ?? Nothing's changed with the ownership change.

I hope they are offering the 0.5% finance to everyone across the entire range. That is one thing they have to do to sell more of the marque.

Even better - just deduct the value of the loan subsidy from the purchase price. Then everyone benefits.

Does anyone know what proportion of buyers borrow for cars like this?

Good point. The current website promotion of 0.5% only applies to "selected DS line models".

Perhaps in possession of said letter you can get 0.5% finance on "selected DS line models" and "selected models in the C5 range"...

I suppose there are people who will make their car buying decisions on the basis of finance. Usually those who believe that a car is just for getting from Point A to Point B. This sales pitch reeks of desperation to me.

Sad to say but I can't see anything tempting in the current line-up. DS5 had some potential but is stuck with conventional suspension that has been panned for its harsh ride. As well, an uninspiring engine line-up. Looks like Germany for my next car in a year or two.

Maybe you're on an Apple product that doesn't convert PDF format readily.
