    Icon8 vibration C5

I drove my 2007 C5 2.0 diesel over some ruts in the road and now it has developed a vibration when I rev the motor and makes a lot of noise on the driver side up front like its rubbing or vibrating against the plastic underneath. No lights come on everything seems OK. Does have trouble with noise and power. Afraid to drive it. Mate seems to think exhaust pipe but don't think so. Engine does not seem loose. Rules out engine mounts. Idles well. I'm really cheesed of as I have spent 800 fixing the rear control arms recently. Please help me with answers. Peterbuc

Engine and gearbox main mounts can snap the stud and it can then 'walk'. See if the alternator pulley will still freewheel. It has a one-way clutch in the pulley and they eventually jam, which causes a lot of vibration at low rpm. You can replace just the pulley unit if you can find the part, but it's likely Citroen Australia will only sell you a complete alternator. Also check the state of the crank damper as they do eventually fall apart.

Also check if the engine cover is loose. It can make a hellavu racket.
Not sure if is the same as on our 2003 model, but i mean the plastic engine cover that hides everything and makes it look pretty!!!
At some stage when the car was being "serviced" some mechanic must have just tried to pull the cover off without undoiing the fixings. Some must have broken there and then, while others were strained and broke much later. Only little bits of weak plastic material so now I have easier access with no cover in there!!! It may be that simple, hope so for your sake
    Cheers for the New Year

Different mounting system, but a good thought. For your 2003 model, you might want to buy a set of new mounts:

Thanks David for the link. Might have to get off the back end and do that. Had not bothered up till now as leaving it off solved the rattling, and i was reluctant to check the spare prices at the local dealership!! No excuses now, especially if the other half hearsvof this. Oh well, call it a New Year resolution.

    Hi Peterbuc,
Maybe you have to check carefully the up right engine mount Anti-Torque Link. This link is extended backwards from engine mounting bracket (which is over the elastic mounting bracket) to the chassis and usually looks good. To test it, just put your hand on it and gradually increase the revolutions of engine. If this part is the reason of noise, you will feel the vibration (in high frequency) on your hand and the same time you will hear the noise at a specific interval of engine revolutions.
Following is a diagram for guide. The torque link is the No 5. Good luck and be careful.

    Happy New Year,
    Yiannis

I just found the way to "steal-copy" the diagram from Citro.. site and I have posted it on the previous post.

Found this helpful old post from citroyannis. Its this anti torque link bush that has gone on my car on the mounting bracket side causing engine vibration.

It really sounds like a broken engine or gearbox mount to me. That's the usual reason for that type of noisy vibration. And it's a relatively cheap and simple repair too.
