    I thought BT was a 1973 colour.

Only ever seen original cars with either body colour or awful "raw" looking beige that goes matt and chalky.

    Hi DS

yes you correct BUT this was the colour disk on the car. at the moment i will have to do some work on some of the panels as the paint is not the best. also the roof is starting to age and going dull. so i am exploring the idea of looking at alternate colours that would compliment the beige.
i recently saw one with a black roof BUT not keen as the D is hot enough as it is without having the roof bake in the oz sun as well.

    BTW thanks for the link.

Hi Lamoor, isn't your car a '73 model despite the '72 build date? (post September 72)

I think you will find that the DS was always available with a white or black roof as a special order. Most cars coming into Australia seem to have been mono coloured as by then the two tone paint was looking a bit old fashioned (Think 63/64 Holdens).

This page has some pics that include a white roofed Beige DS Pallas.

Lamoor, are you just changing the appearance of your car so you don't get all the blame for my ratbag driving on the Northern Beaches?

DS Pallas roof colours-september2012-021.jpgblack vinyl roof was also offered on the Pallas, and I reckon it offers a good contrast to the paint work.

The vinyl was option for fuel injected models according to Nuancierds as you can see, I'd stick with the body colour.
The vinyl could be hot you'd think?

I like black too. But as you say it would make it hotter. Silver looks good. Have a look at Michaels car but I think body colour looks best on later cars.

We got black vinyl in '72, even though we never got EFI. The vinyl roofs were Pallas-only, I think. It's possible that was a port install item, but I doubt it- that would have been an awful lot of dismantling.

Vinyl looks ugly and destroys the clean-ness of a DS roof. Vinyl is for ugly American cars with faux Landau roofs!

Agreed with DS regarding the vinyl roof. I also think that body colour suits the later cars, even more so those painted in metallic colours.

As someone said in my restoration thread, I think the two-tone works on the fun, simple lower spec cars but the Pallas with their luxurious appointments and serious, metallic paint looks far more elegant with a body coloured roof.

    Just my two cents!

There was a brown DS floating around for a while with a satin black roof I think. Kind of looked cool.
I don't mind vinyl but I don't like the seams. Surely the seams aren't necessary as there is not much compound curve.
Have a good look through the DS appreciation thread for inspiration.
    cheers Tony

Depends how it's done. It can look 'right' or very, very wrong. The black vinyl on 1970's Jag XJ coupes helped the look of the car, but some of those fake lanadu tops are about as tasteful as bolt on wood panels. I suppose they do have admirers! Thinking Falcon 'Squire' here.

For the early ID/DS, two tone paints suited the period. A white roof over solid pastels suits the ID and D Special very well, but doesn't flatter most of the metallic colours. I'd be saying body colour with Beige Tholonet, but you might choose lime green with pinks spots as a means of personal expression.

Personally I'd go for a silver kustom type super-coarse flake.

Vinyl stick on roof covering usually makes me think of Arthur Daley and dodgy 'executive' add-ons to cheap ford cortinas and holden

You could spray two massive chevrons with a sticky tape stencil on top so the copper chopper knew where you are!

    A tale of personal experience???

I once heard of a stencilled Eiffel Tower on the headlining as a classy suggestion.

Guys, we already have cars painted like that running around SoCal. They're called lowriders.
