I'd try Vicroads for a start, or if that's too far away you could enquire at your local Police Station. Either will fill you in.

I'm not so worried about the Police. I have seen many club plates changed either in colour or size or both to be more compatible with the vehicle age & style. This is what I want to achieve. There is at least one website in the UK that offers to make plates, but I don't know if its a legitimate website.

I think there would be a good market for illegitimate number plates. After all, the speed camera accepts the number plate at face value. Is it your problem if the authorities have trouble finding the address associated with the number plate when they send out the fine?

I didn't know that. I always had this feeling that not all prisoners are bad.

"In many U.S. states, license plates are made by prison inmates.[9] Prison inmates in some Canadian provinces make licence plates.[10] Because of this, colloquial terms include "license plate factories" for prison and "making license plates" for serving a prison sentence."

There's an Ebay seller in the UK with good reputation for assorted plate styles - pretty sure they do a pressed metal 520◊110 plate set.

    Unauthorised number plates
VicRoads warns custom plates users that the display on a vehicle of number plates that have not been issued by VicRoads is an offence under the Road Safety (Vehicles) Regulations 2009.

Police and authorised VicRoads officers have power to seize any number plate they have reasonable grounds for suspecting was not issued in accordance with the Road Safety Act.

A person who makes, uses, knowingly has custody or possession of, sells or alters any identifying number or general identification mark that is authorised or required under the Road Safety Act is guilty of an offence punishable by a fine of 10 penalty units or imprisonment for two months.

Thats probably why petrol thieves steal legally issued numberplates before filling up and fleeing without paying.

Club permit plates can only be the standard size. I have folded mine down a little so they fit the housings on the cars. ie: folded the "Victoria" over. Probably illegal, but the numbers are still the same size so can be seen by $afety Camera$ and Toll Camera$ .... that'$ all anyone will care about.

I'm glad somebody finally did. I'm sitting here reading this and thinking this is illegal, you can't just make your own plate. Especially on club plates which stand out like dogs whatsits.

I hear the AOMC is trying to get personalised plates approved for use on club registered vehicles at present.

Be great if they could. The two biggest complaints I hear about club plates is that you can't get personalised and you can't get slim lines.

I would love to obtain a number plate for my 11BL that actually fits the almost square rear plate holder and also the curved front holder ! It is the same curve as the bumper bar that it sits on!

Expensive as hell, but that would go over gangbusters here in SoCal. The DMV wouldn't be able to keep up with demand.

Ouch, and to think Gulson Citroen didn't put NSW Euro plates on the Picasso because they reckon they're a rip off @ $400!

OP-I'd just suffer the current plates, knowing a few people who've been unlucky to be caught with plates not officially issued, remakes of their issued plates, it's not worth the issues if you get caught.

    Hi
What is a complete puzzle to me is the difference between how some things are viewed in different countries.

Here we see making your own plates as VERY VERY VERY BAD. However in some countries you just go into a parts store and have them made up to your issued numbers. Need a trailer plate also, just make your own and stick it on. In one place I lived in, you could front with a disused plate from an unregistered car and that was OK too.

Are we such bad bastards out here in Australia we cannot be trusted with plates and have to pay the authority to do a ordinary quality job and NOBODY can even put paint on them if they get damaged Seems to me the villians will break the law no matter who supplied the plates.
