Default Xsara steering shudder at 100km/ph help Please

ok so after the adventure of the Xsara with the clutch having been in and out approx 4 times since feb i have been having some steering issues

at approximately 100km/ph while the foot is on the accelerator i get a wheel shudder in the left front wheel that is noticeable in the steering

all 4 tires have been replaced in the last 3 days that has included the wheel balance and a steering alignment

all felt well when i got the car back and started driving
wasn't till about an hour later as i was leaving Sydney on way back to the gong that i noticed that the same shudder that i had been getting before the tires had been replaced was back

today i noticed that the car is pulling to the left again which it wasn't doing on Friday night when the tired were first done

could it be a) the bottom engine mount
or b) the front left break pads playing up
    or c) something else completely

throught the reason PSA release the Pug model first was to work out all the bugs before they released the citroen with outh as many bugs?

any way back to the car

    no its pulling desperately
more that on friday night i could let go of the wheel and it would drive straight for a reasonable distance before starting to move over to the left
where as today it does it almost as soon as i let go of the wheel

try turning it all the way to the right and then try it again and see if it still pulls left

I am following this thread with interest, as I have a similar problem with my 605. Doesn't pull to one side, but gets the shakes at about 100 km/h. Yes it's got wheels without centres (which most places can't balance), but I have had them balanced in Tamworth, but it has never completely got rid of the shakes, and problem has persisted over different sets of tyres. Rotating front to back makes little difference. Had thought about getting new(er) wheels with centre holes, but suspect I should look for other causes first.

Have noticed that the front end of the 605 is noisier over our rough gravel driveway than the Xantia & the 406 - so presume it's time to replace control arm bushes, ball joints etc. No problem going through rego, but wondering if worn suspension components might contribute to steering wheel shake at speed?

    Cheers

Did you loosen the steering rack when you your messing about with the gearbox. Your obviously practiced now, why don't you whip the 'box back out and see if there is any fasteners that were missed

The intermediate driveshaft bearing isn't loose is it ? Think about everything you touched when the car was in bits, what touched would effect geometry

There are all the usual things to check, but also have a look at the wishbone bushes and check the mountings for cracks.

gear box mount is still ok
top engine mount is new (replaced at same time as the clutch in feb)
bottom engine mount looks ok on the out side but may have gone soft on the inside

steering column was not touched when removing the right drive shaft

but the steering arms were touched (arms were unscrewed ratther than the steering ball joint for 4 of the 5 times it was removed)
but i'm assuming that they were adjusted back to straight when the alignment was done

wheels are non hole xsara mags
but the tyre service was done at Tempe Tyres which are a mag wheel specialist so im assuming that they do balancing on non hole wheels

will checl all the ball joints again (leaver arm, wishbone and steering)

could a warped disk break cause this at all or would notice it sooner than 100km/ph?

only reason i ask this is when i adjusted the air in the tires i noticed that the left wheel was warmer then the right

not in a citroen, the thing will have a fanny fit

while the car is stationary turn it full lock to the right then take it for a run and see if it still wants to pull to the left

Does it shudder under brakes? If not, it can't be warped very much .

    Cheers

no its not shudderin under breaks so can rule that one out

while i had the wheel off i tightened up the steering ball joint

it wasn't shuddering as much today but still had the shudders over 100
