Default engine oil change c5 2 ltr petrol

Hi Guys, i am changing the oil & filter for the first time myself ( previously by mechanics) It might sound stupid but is the drain plug the one at the gearbox end of the sump with the hex fitting in the middle of it? can't see any other options but want to be sure. thanks Dave

Shouldn't the oil drain through the exhaust pipe?

If you are looking at the engine sump, it will have only the one drain plug. However, it may be an 8mm square fitting, not hex.

it's the hex for the c6. Maybe your c5 has the same drain plug. I normally use pump to drain oil instead of drain by gravity.

Was thinking steel sump that often has a female 8mm square plug, but it's probably cast aluminium.

The pump works on most models via the dipstick. Not on the later EP6 (e.g. 1.6 turbo/non-turbo petrol) engines though as there is a gap in the dipstick tube.

All good, job done but the filter sure was tight & difficult to get a grip on with the normal leather strap type tool that I have. eventually got it undone by using piece of seatbelt strap wrapped around a length of square tube with a shifter on the end. worked a treat. cheers Dave
