    Icon5 Traction steering

I've got the front end off the ground on my family 9 whilst the new tyres (thanks Longstone!) are being fitted. One thing that has surprised me is how stiff the steering is with no weight on it. Is this normal?

You are turning the whole hub assembly with ball joints top and bottom and the drive shaft splines have to be lubricated. All this as well as the rack. Maybe check all of those for greasing and adjustment. There is a bit of weight in the hubs and drums. Should be reasonably free though.

Perhaps some one has tightened up the tie rod ends and ball joints. They wear and ovalise just tightening them up when badly worn will cause them to bind.
Rack movement should be smooth and free when there is no weight on the wheels.
    Cheers Gerry
