Icon14 C5 Exclusive Suspension sorted, $2k Saved, Thanks aussiefrogs!

Recently saved $2k thanks to advice from aussiefrogs. I'm based in SE Melbourne and thought I'd share my story and give a shout out to the two businesses that really helped out.

Took my C5 to a Citroen dealer in Brighton to be told that it needed a new suspension hyd. pump. Cost of pump would be $2500, delivery (from France) would take 3 weeks and with fitting would be looking at a bill of $3100+

So I jumped straight on to this forum and identified Bart Ebben company based in the Netherlands (http://bartebben.com/home.html). A couple of very friendly emails later and I'd secured a pump from a 2006 C5 for 350 euros. It was delivered within a week to Melbourne. The service by email from these guys was simply fantastic.

Back to this forum and I learnt of
Elliot from Elliot Tune Mobile (0412 391205) who is a mobile mechanic is a French car specialist based in Frankston South (Melbourne). Elliot was working on the car on Monday and finished Tuesday. He did a fantastic job and I cannot recommend him more strongly. A delightful professional with great Citroen knowledge.

All up with labour and the part it came to about $1000 and I was back on the road within a week. A lot better than $3100 and possible being out of action for about a month.

Thanks Bart Ebben, thanks Elliot and most critically thanks to AussieFrogs!

And thanks to Citroen reliability for bringing all these disparate people together.

Good result. Were there no used pumps available locally?

Interesting story, I just received my new rearview mirror and MP3 radio from Bart Ebben as well. They ship anywhere in the world and are quite reasonable with their pricing.

"Were there no used pumps available locally?"

I had a quick look online, but to be honest it seemed much easier to use Bart Ebben. One of my concerns was the type variants you get with Citroen C5's and I was hoping that they'd have a better chance knowing what pump I specifically required for my engine/model/year and (because of their size) they'd be more likely to have it.

As it happened when I first contacted them they didn't have the specific model I needed but two days later a 2006 C5 was delivered to them that had exactly what I was looking for.

I'd be keen to procure locally (within Australia) if I could get equivalent service, expertise and price Any recommendations?

BM Spares in Melbourne would be your closest wrecker, but a part like a pump is easily posted. Fairly sure this was mentioned before, but for anyone else reading, the pumps are essentially the same mechanically right through apart from a change to a single fluid connection where there had been two on early pumps. The piping under the reservoir differs too, but blocking off the smaller pipe/port is possible if that's the only option. A change about 2005 from CAN-VAN to the full-CAN communication network system required a new ECU and you must use the correct one for your car. It's going to be the pump at fault more often than the ECU and it's very easy to swap the ECU.

p.s. Looks like you've created a new account for some reason???

A combination of this site and hotmail made it impossible for me to reset my password so yes I created a new account.

You're right about the ECU, had to swap it over as part of the pump replacement ( we are talking about the black box on the top of the pump right?).

I might check out BM Spares IF something fails in the future (but as we know it's a Citroen so that will NEVER HAPPEN)

The word on the street is that in a little over 5 days from now Citroen will announce a new model that needs only minimal servicing and never requires replacement parts.

I'm told by many wreckers that H2+ pump are more advanced and H2 pump computer don't work
with these. I sourced many H2 pumps but H2+ are harder too find. My electric motor to my pump is fried.
So my pump is ok. Who's got one? let me know. call me Michael 0457 496 188 or TXT
