Icon14 This just cracks me up current e bay ad for dead CX

Q: You must be on crack if you think that a non-operational CX is worth $3k. Even the very best CX Prestiges (which yours isn't) don't go for more than 10-15K, that is the reality. As a true Citroen enthusiast I find it offensive that you have let the car fall into such disrepair, and that you think it's worth anything disgusts me, as does your misinformed description. 06-Feb-13
A: Unless you're physic (probably psychotic more than likely), you have no idea why the car has "fallen into such disrepair". If you can honestly repeat your idiot's statement toward the end, you're the one on crack. kimchimad is spot on, with the operative word being "mad". Take your comment (it's meant to be a question or even an answer, can't you read) and stick it right up you as far as it will go!

He should get points for creative writing.

"The first photo is not of the actual vehicle for sale, but mine is an identical model. My car's 'real' photos follow.

Consider that with a bit of work, your new project could look like this as well. The last one I saw was in Sydney and sold for $35,000.00."

The real question is, does making that Q and A public (seller's choice to do so of course) really increase your chances of selling that car...

It's a poor fantasy on the part of the seller to consider anyone is as foolish as he has has shown.

Guess he enjoys the images of the car in the long grass and his location is ideal for anyone remotely interested to take a look.
Oops, sorry, it's his location that is as remote as my interest.

I would just ignore him and his ad. Let him get a reality check when no one bids on it and the local scrappy won't give 1c for it but might offer to remove it free of charge.

Meanwhile if he does get a bid good luck to him.

Unfortunately I only got scrap metal value for my '76 CX 2200 Super & its spare.
I'd at least look at the car on Gumtree, it looks like an honest add.
But, a CX is not a D, and a non-runner is rarely worth even a $1,000. Mine wasn't worth a grand and is was great mechanically, good in the body, and when parked was fully registered.

No A CX is not a D! But is a worthy successor. There are too many people out there that put down CXs just because their principle interest is a D series car. Given more time I will venture to say that CXs will be scarcer than Ds because of the current lack of interest and eventually will rival them in value!

I'm getting forgetful - did they even ask that much for the last new 25's marketed (in Sydney, to fit the claim) in the mid 80's?

You probably don't need to give it any more time - in Queensland at least there are far more D's than CX's still registered. If anyone really wants a CX, they better start looking.

A bit of roughie that needs just one glass half full buyer with heavily rose-tinted glasses ... I imagine he's referring to the blue ex-Von Bock CX at that money. I'd initially though the vendor of this example had simply not been to Sydney for quite a long time, but then thought that a CX would never have cost $35K when new. Anyone got a price list? A comparison in Wheels from 1979 shows Statesman/LTD about $17K, Jag 5.3 $32K and MB 450SEL at $43K. The CX was sold alongside the Jaguars by Byrsons in Sydney about that time and there was substantial inflation in that decade, so it's not impossible for the CX to have reached that price new at some point. Certainly not as a uses car though.

The last GTI autos sold for $39K in 1985. The Pallas was $35.9K. A lot of money at the time!

There can be only one, or at least one with many variations, to respond to this seller's conceptions.

I think Archrival's "question" on the item was quite accurate.

The second an individual or company makes Series 1 door trims in different colours for all of its variants through the years, the CX will find its rebirth right then and there.

The trims is the car's great undoing - followed closely by the steering wheel and its tendency to be tin-worm friendly.

The guy who wrote the question is right though, what if some unsuspecting kid (like we all were once) gets taken in by the beauty and majesty that is the CX dream and loses all his dosh - and his mind - trying to get it up to scratch? We all know what these cars are worth and should let sellers know (perhaps in a more friendly way) to help keep these cars alive.
