    Default Citro Motors-Closing

I see in the latest Club magazine that Citro Motors, Fitzroy, Vic have closed or are closing?
Mel Carey is offering any parts that he has left for sale.
Another Citroen service bites the dust.
    Sad.

Yeah, very sad for me too. Because he had helped me a lot with My ID 19. And I got my RWC-> club permit.

Yes time moves on doesn't it. Can anyone guessitmate how long Citro Motors has been there, must go back to the 50's wouldn't it.

Mel has sold the building to a development company and no one wanted the business so its closing. He told me months ago it was going to happen so it looks like it's happened.

Citro Motors opened after the close of Shields Motors ( Victorian Citroen Lancia Fiat distributors until Commonwealth Motors took over around 1954), where both Bruno Metzer and Guilio Tombolato were employed, after the death of Mr Shield. They opened the new business in partnership with a third person under the name MBT motors ( MBT being the initials of the surnames of the three partners) servicing Fiat Lancia and Citroen. During the middle sixties the name was changed the Citro Motors.
This is from memory and is only an approximation!

Sold a pair of shoes to Bruno once at a garage sale. Bruno reminded me of the cabinet maker Henry Taub in the Jack Irish telemovies starring Guy Pearce.

I wonder wrether Mel inherited any rare traction and ID parts that are now for sale ?

Kazu, your car looks wonderful in that photo. I hope to see it in real life sometime. There's a certain magic that omits from the early Ds. Stylistically, they're my favourite.

don't i remember seeing old peugeot signage there, up on a beam? enamel even?
thought i would have noticed fiat and lancia too but have no specific recollections of that ...

(off topic, yes, but its quite nice to note there are somethings that can't really be lego-ed
(which could arguably be a test of divine vs. anthropogenic design))

Yes I do believe that there was signage on the panel over the entrance to the rear workshop.

Does anyone know if the mechanic Col is going to another cit service centre? He has many years of experience.

Mel told me he had left early this year to look after sick mother. I think he is retired. And Nick ( young guy) is going back to Greece.
I was wanting him to check and repair my car because he is the expert! Shame that skill is lost there not passed on to next Gen.

For those interested, Mel has turned up in Queensland and is living on Bribie Island. Doesn't seem too involved in Citroen Activities these days.

    Cheers, Ken
