Default 1.6 Thp auxiliary water pump noise

    Hi all,

I have noticing that the auxiliary water pump that runs after the engine has been shut down to cool the turbo has been getting progressively louder in the last few months. It was fairly quiet when got the car, sounding like a faint whirring inthe background after shut down. It has now become very loud and makes a noticeable gurgling, rattling noise. It's only done 6,700km.

Just wondering whether others can shed some light on their experiences. It is something to be concerned about? Cheers

I'd suggest asking the dealer and even comparing it to a new car if you think there is a problem. If there is a known weakness with pumps, they will be aware of it. A possible known known I guess, but then maybe not ... reminds me of ...

Yes, mine don't rattle or gurgle. I think the 207 emits the same high-pitched whine it always has, and the DS3 is (I would have thought) too new to have an issue.

    I'd get it seen to.

Thanks for the replies. Simon, when you say "high pitched" whine, is noticeable from a metre or two away from the car? Was it that way all the time? Is the pump noticeable on the DS3?

I will take it in, but hoping to do so when the service is due in the new year.

I hear that they have been replacing these pumps on the minis as part of a recall - no news for PSA though.

Yes, it is definitely noticeable from a metre or two away - though not if you are parked on the side of the road on a busy street.
