    Default Queensland rego data

I'm doing a slow trawl through the newly published Qld rego data, and it's quite interesting. Who knew there were so many 2CV's on the roads in Qld? Or that only four 1978 Citroens seem to still be registered here?
The data is a bit of a mess, as there are so many registration categories and periods, and many cars have no model description.
I'm focusing on 1970 through to 2000 at the moment.
5 SM's found so far (so Donat's seems to be too recent).
54 D series, either stated or assumed by given weight (not including the SM's that get called D)
    16 GS's so far, the earliest being a 1973 and the latest a 1979. Donat, your G obviously isn't registered as a G series?
21 CX's listed as such. Quite a few Pallas series that could be either C or G.
    2 AX's listed as such.
    32 BX's listed as such.
    12 XM's listed as such.
    54 2 cylinders.

My 1015 is an interesting on in terms of what's on the rego paper as the car hadn't changed hands since 1974. I am the car's third owner.

    Year of Manufacture: 1972
    Make: Citroen
    Body Shape: Sedan
    Vin/Chassis: QOBM359
    Engine Number: G106120612051887

etc etc. It's interesting how my VIN is actually the car's registration plate which is OBM-359.

    Hope this information is useful.

Bill Gates is the world's most notorious IT weasel, and he doesn't drive... I had some problems with a 1965 pug 404. The only option was to register it as a 1969 model since the IT weasels had no idea or interest in the actual years of production. This was an issue at the time because the 3rd party insurance is different for a 30 YO or older car.

I had to force the issue or risk insurance hassels if there was a 3rd party claim. Eventually someone found how to sort it out but it looks like the Qld transport IT weasels have the same lack of professionalism as the QLD health payroll IT weasels.

I will note here that all the IT managers I've ever met drive company supplied Camrys...

Donat, my GS is similarly described, Main Roads telling me at the time they were unable to accept its non-Citroen chassis number. Can't see how that would explain anyone-else's though.

Published data does not give VIN or engine or rego numbers, for obvious reasons.

Colour and suburb means I think I've identified which one is yours, but I haven 't counted it.

Bruce H, does it count cars with the S concessional/club plate, too?

I've yet to trawl through the whole thousands of records (it took long enough just to get the document open in a form I could use, and I can't get access to it at the moment - just the bits I copied to a spreadsheet) but my car on concessional was with the other passenger cars private use. It's on personal rather than S plates, but I get the feeling they aren't segregated.

If there's less than 20 registered GSs, then I think I've got a mental count of most of them. Frightening how little there are left.

I think I've found another way to determine some of the GS's - a few of the cars without make description do have a tare weight. 870 & 880 or 900 which would have to be GS, surely? Going by this measure, add to the GS count a blue and a red 1972 (both of which I think I know); a brown 1974 in Kingaroy; a white 1974 wagon in Hunchy; a cream 1976 wagon that I might know at Broadbeach; a white 1976 wagon in NSW (what the ????) which I think I know; and a 1976 orange sedan registered as a commercial at Mt Gravatt.
So a GS total now of 23, of which I definitely know six and think I know eleven.
A black 1973 petrol 4 cylinder sedan is given as 750 kgs however - if it was a 1993 I'd say it was an AX.

Now up to 3 AX's - red, white, and black.
Ten of the BX's are wagons, no diesel BX's.
We know of the one green diesel XM from this forum.

I haven't seen the orange GS in quite some time. I take it the QLD registered XM wagon (I saw along Ann St many years ago) is no longer in the state or on the road?

You're right about the weight. Mine says 800kg. A 1220 Pallas is (from reading somewhere along the way) up to 40kg heavier than a Club.

There are 2 orange GS sedans listed, other is at East Bris.
Can't find an XM wagon thus far.

Just found a 1972 6 cylinder silver DS hatchback (read SM) - have you moved to the south side Donat?

Now up to 29 CX's - two of which are wagons (Ken W's and blue diesel), one diesel CX sedan. Anyone know of a 1988 white GTi in Carbrook - it could be either a BX or a CX with that description?

    Hi Bruce,

    Cheers,
    Chris.

Chris W, it's the zip at http://www.data.qld.gov.au. Given that they tell you it's such a large file that many systems will have trouble with it, it's a pity they didn't split the data into individual files for emergency vehicles/ concessional/ Commercial/ motorbike/ passenger/ etc. I finally got it to open as a .txt in Notepad, which can be searched but is hard to skim-read without putting into something that formats it in columns. It won't just convert to a comma delimited spreadsheet in Excel as there are too many rows of data.

Chris, thanks for clarifying that we seem to have at least 30 CX's still here.

Anyone know enough about iPads to know what app I should be using to get a large file to unzip and then present it to me in a way that easily lets me search the document? The free app I have opens the document, but is useless for searching.

Anyone know these non-Brisbane cars with unusual model descriptions?
In Mt Isa - a 1985 4 cylinder petrol CV series sedan - all other CV series listed are 2 cylinders? Is this the black CX Turbo?
    Cairns North - a 1978 blue Pallas, but is it a C or a G?
    Svensson Heights Bundaberg - a gold 1977 Pallas, again is it a C or a G?
    Torrington near Toowoomba- a dealer registered 1972 blue wagon - a D I assume?
    Southport - a commercially registered 1974 silver sedan, a D or a G?

The 1972 grey diesel van at Red Hill I assume is a H van?
Didn't know there was a white C15d van around either.

ps and that 1973 4 cylinder black sedan with the low 750 tare weight is at Capalaba, anyone know what it is?

The 1972 grey diesel van at Red Hill is a C35. I have slept in it.

    Update
From the 1920's to the end of the 1990's:
91 vehicles that have no model description and that can't be identified.
A dozen of these are probably Tractions, about 18 are probably D's with another two dozen that could be D or G but are probably D, almost another dozen that could be G or CX, around another dozen that could be AX or BX or CX, and a few more that could be XM or Xantia or maybe Xsara.
    38 Tractions
    2 1960's Amis
59 2CV or Dyane or Mehari or AK van or later Ami
    1 HY
    1 C35
    1 C15
    74 D series stated
    6 SM
    23 GS
    30 CX
    34 BX
    3 AX
    13 XM
    100+ Xantia
    30+ Xsara

I still may have missed a few here or there, but these stats clearly indicate why we see so many D series vehicles show up at displays and meets, add in the unkonwns and there could well be as many of them registered as there are Xantias. The 1980's and early 90's models look as though they might just survive in enough numbers that some will still be on the road by the time they can be Club registered.
