    Default DS cabrio at Motorclassica

I visited the classic car show in Melbourne and saw some fantastic cars .There was a very nice DS cabrio that was supposed to be a 62 model ,but had much later front bodywork and swivelling headlights etc .I thought it may have been a mistake on the information board ,but the rego label said 62 mod so i assume it has been made to look like a later car .Surely a classic like this would be devalued by such modifications

Depends who did the mods. If it is a 62 that went back to Chapron for an 'update' then its value may be up from an 'original'

What's french for 'We have ways of keeping you guessing' ?

I believe the sign board to be wrong, if I'm not mistaken that is a reproduction vehicle and a replica of a Chapron (in the truest sense of the word replica). I'm pretty sure that this is the excellent car that was constructed from a late model saloon over several years by the very talented Robert Kalkbrenner from Hekas in Dandenong. I apologise to the owner if I'm wrong but Robert's work is of such a high standard that it's difficult to tell the difference between the real McCoy and his creation. As you can see it's not cut and shut job. It's a pity that the organisers could't get the sign board correct, at least with the year, they could still wrap some mystique around its origins.

Let's call it a "better" replica in the body than the Chapron.

Nobody noticed (commented) it is also an auto...

Devalued? That particular car has its own value, as a one off there is nothing to compare it to.

It's a stunning car which ever way you want to look at it. My number 1 of the show. Although the auto wouldn't have been my choice. Sorry I didn't take my camera but I know others did. It was also winner of the CCCV show 2011.

    Dear all,

i went on Friday morning - not sure it was as good as last year ? Some fantastic cars however.

It was a lovely car - agree with Richo's sentiments.

Here are some photos, unfortunately just taken with an iphone...

If it is a replica there may have been a 62 model original donor car [rusty or damaged] to provide parts for the conversion ,and also a genuine Chapron identity

Some may think this is splitting hairs, but to me, that particular car is not a replica, I would prefer to think of it as a tribute.
In many ways better than the original, hence the use of the term replica seems less than complimentary.

    A personal take on it.

I don't want to be the pedant amongst us either but the replica I was referring to was this, "A replica is a copy closely resembling the original concerning its shape and appearance" (admittedly a Wikipedia definition). Which ever way you wish to interpret the word 'replica' doesn't alter the fact that it is a beautifully executed reproduction and a very desirable car.

Is this perhaps a Heka car? If so it must have been exquisite, original or not
